Kelly sat down for an interview with the brilliant people over at Popjustice, and this particular portion really gave me pause for thought...
PJ: Was this an attempt to react against the imagery of the last album, after it didn't sell that well?
Kelly: That was a very popular album as well, I just thought it would be fun to change it up.
Are you being serious? Which part of My December do you recall that made it "a very popular album"? The fact that it had one top 10 single that only spent a week or two in the top 10, as opposed to the five top 10 singles released from Breakaway, and the fact that it sat on the charts for...what...a month at best?
Sigh...pop stars. Look, if your album flops, fess up to it. Everyone has one of them. Mariah Carey had two albums that flopped and LOOK AT HER (bad example...she still doesn't wear a bra and that last album was God-awful). Everyone knows when your album was a dud, there's no need to cover it up and try to convince us it was a monster success when clearly the sales and chart positions testify to the exact opposite.
You're not fooling anyone.
